Today is the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. It is a traditional festival in the Zhuang area to worship the Ox God - the Ox King Festival. On that day, the farmers gave the cattle a day off, and each household renovated the cattle pens. The village elders commented highly on the cattle in the village and warned each family to take good care of the cattle. Every family steams five-color glutinous rice, wraps it in loquat leaves and feeds it to the cows. In some places, offerings of wine, meat, melons and fruits are placed in the main room. The parents lead an old cow and walk around the offerings, singing as they walk, to praise and reward the cow's merits. Since the 1970s, the color of worshiping the cow god in the Ox King Festival has gradually faded, but the custom of worshiping and protecting cows still exists. People are still used to making five-color (colored) glutinous rice on that day and sharing it with family, relatives and friends, which means a good harvest, happiness and health.
