Homemade canned corn shoots
Overview
We grow two crops a year there, wheat in the winter and corn, sorghum and other miscellaneous grains in the summer. I remember breaking sticks when I was a child. The adults were chatting in the cornfield, while the children were crawling around in the field playing hide and seek. Occasionally, when I encounter a few sticks that are still very tender, I chew them like sugar cane. They are sweet and have the fragrance of corn. Just like the sweet taste of this corn shoot. When they get home in the evening, the adults will pick out the unripe corn and cook it in a big pot. Grandpa has just swept away the fallen leaves all over the yard and piled them beside the firewood bushes on the stove. The yard is filled with the smell of boiled corn mixed with a faint smell of smoke. It is sweet, it is a warm, quiet and peaceful smell...
