Dinner Plate Painting of Manchu Women
Overview
The hairstyle of Manchu women is called flag head. From the Jurchen tribe, after entering the customs, the hair style developed from the initial one-character head, to the second hair, the shelf hair, the big pull-up, etc. Due to the popularity of court dramas, the most familiar hair style is the big pull-up during the Qing Dynasty. This kind of hair crown is made of iron wire, bamboo and rattan as the hat frame, and wrapped with blue satin, green velvet or green gauze. It is called a fan-shaped crown about 30 cm long and 10 cm wide. Just fix it on your bun when wearing it. This kind of headdress is only worn by upper-class Manchu women. Women from ordinary families only wear this wide hair crown when they get married. The hair crown is usually embroidered with patterns, inlaid with jewels, or decorated with various flowers, with long tassels hanging on both sides. This large hair crown limits the twisting of the neck, and the body will naturally stand upright after wearing it. Coupled with the long cheongsam and high-soled flag shoes, women can't help but take slender steps when walking, and the overall look is extremely stable and elegant.
