Overview
Grilled tofu is a special dish in our hometown. In the past, we used salt-braised tofu made by our own farmers before the Chinese New Year. I remember when I was a child, my mother would make it on the 25th and 25th. The prepared tofu was cut into square slices, as big as the palm of my hand, and grilled on the side of the iron pot until browned on both sides. In our hometown, roasted tofu is mostly used in sacrificial ceremonies. Because roasted is a homophone to lean, it is given to neighbors to show mutual dependence. Nowadays, with material wealth, neighbors rarely give gifts to each other, but my mother will make this roasted tofu every New Year, Winter Solstice, and Qingming Festival, mainly to pay homage to our ancestors; let our ancestors bless our descendants with happiness, good health, and children's learning progress. In short, we place all our good wishes on it. There are many ways to eat grilled tofu. It can be poured with soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, etc. while it is hot, and can be used as a side dish with wine; or it can be boiled with vegetables and bean sprouts; or it can be stewed with grilled tofu as the main ingredient.
