Fried red fruits
Overview
Hawthorn is also called red fruit, and fried red fruit is a traditional snack in old Beijing. It is called fried red fruit because hawthorn is stir-fried with boiled syrup. This snack is sweet and sour and very appetizing, making it a great delicacy in autumn. I like to make some of this and freeze it in the refrigerator. Then I can use it to make desserts when I don’t have hawthorn anymore. I also fried a big box today, and it’s original, so it’s easy to use in the future. If it is directly available, I like to add some sugared osmanthus. The fried red fruits with a bit of osmanthus flavor taste better.

Ingredients
Steps
-
Clean the hawthorn.
-
Use the pen cap to press a mark on one end of the hawthorn flower stalk, preferably to the core
-
Then insert the pen cap into one end of the handle
-
In this way, the core inside can be easily removed, and the core will be removed very cleanly.
-
Remove all cores and set aside.
-
Add water to the rock sugar and cook over low heat. You can also use the same amount of white sugar instead of the rock sugar
-
Cook until a lot of big bubbles form on the surface of the syrup. Rock sugar is more difficult to melt, so it needs to be simmered slowly over low heat. If it is white sugar, it can be simmered over medium heat and it will be done quickly
-
Add the hawthorns and stir-fry until the hawthorns are evenly coated with the syrup,
-
Cover the lid and continue to simmer for 2 minutes.
-
Prepared fried red fruits. Although it only took 2 minutes to simmer, the hawthorns were already cooked. The sweet and sour taste is very appetizing.
