A sweet and sour appetizer of fried red fruits
Overview
I remember when I was a kid, every household would use a briquette stove to keep warm. After dinner, the family would sit around the table watching TV and eating fried red fruits. Autumn is the season when hawthorns are ripe and on the market, but they don’t taste good when eaten raw. So I tried making fried red fruits at home. Although it is called fried red fruit, it is actually not fried but boiled in sugar water. Sprinkle some sweet-scented osmanthus when eating, it is sour and sweet, appetizing and digesting, especially a good snack. Hawthorn, also known as mountain red or red fruit, has high nutritional value and medical value. Elderly people often eat hawthorn products to increase appetite, improve sleep, maintain the stability of calcium in bones and blood, and prevent atherosclerosis. Therefore, hawthorn is regarded as a longevity food.

Steps
-
Wash the hawthorn and remove the core (use a straw and poke it at the flower stem, and all the seeds will come out). Here is a part of the core that my dad cut in half directly
-
Put hawthorn, rock sugar and water into the pot. Bring to a boil and skim off the foam.
-
Reduce the heat to low and use a spoon to gently scrape the bottom and turn the hawthorns from time to time until the soup becomes slightly thicker.

Sprinkle sweet-scented osmanthus when eating. It may not be the authentic fried red fruit from old Beijing, but it is delicious, sour and sweet, and the whole family loves it.
