Crispy fried snow peas
Overview
Snow peas (peas) are not produced in the Netherlands. They are called snow peas because the Dutch brought them to China from their place of origin. In the 17th century, the Dutch ruled Taiwan and the Nanyang Islands in Southeast Asia with their powerful maritime fleet. They brought various imported products from all over the world, so local residents began to call them snow beans. Later, the Hokkien people who traveled to Southeast Asia and the Chaoshan people brought the peas back to their hometown, and also adopted the local name, calling the peas snow peas.
