The "magic" that turns onions into lotus flowers
Overview
I have always preferred craft works. Although I studied art, I am more fascinated by various small handicrafts. Yes, baking is considered craftsmanship, so I jumped into it. Food carving is also a craft that I am very interested in, but my wallet does not support me to develop this craft. Despite this, I will still do some simple food carvings that do not require professional tools and do not require buying a lot of ingredients, such as the "Beautiful Carrot Parquet" I posted before (interested friends can go to my homepage or official account Meiji to watch). Today I will introduce to you a simpler and more beautiful onion and lotus flower. Just cut it a few times and blanch it in boiling water.

Ingredients
Steps
-
Peel the onion, cut off the roots, and cut the bottom flat. Be careful not to cut too much or let the onion skin fall off.
-
Slice the top of the onion flat as well.
-
Make a slit through the middle of the onion without cutting through.
-
Just like this, cut it to about 1cm from the bottom. The purpose is also to prevent the onion skin from falling off.
-
Make another cut and divide the onion into quarters.
-
Cut each onion 2 times into 3 equal parts, and cut the whole onion into 12 parts in total. During the process of cutting onions, the onions will emit a strong pungent smell, which may be unbearable for your eyes. You can soak the onions in a bowl of cold water for a while before cutting.
-
Place the chopped onions in a bowl, pour them with boiling water, and let the onions soak in the boiling water for about 2 minutes.
-
Remove the onions and arrange the petals with your hands to allow them to bloom.
-
Plate it! As the saying goes, red flowers must be complemented by green leaves, so I cut a cucumber as a foil, but I think the lettuce leaves should be more like lotus leaves.
