Home-made snacks, sweet and sour fruit peel
Overview
My favorite when I was a kid was the sweet and sour fruit peel! I especially like to smooth out the rolled fruit peel layer by layer, bite one end, and make a black and white face with a long tongue hanging, haha! Nowadays, although it is easy to buy it in the supermarket, I still feel that I don’t know what has been added and it is sticky, which makes me worry. Anyway, it’s very simple, just do it yourself! It’s really starting from scratch, super delicious!

Steps
-
After soaking the hawthorns in salt water, use a knife to peel off the bottom of the hawthorns
-
Cut a circle horizontally from the middle, and you can see 3-5 cores. You can remove them all with a slight twist of the knife
-
Continue to process all the hawthorns
-
Marinate a layer of hawthorn and a layer of sugar for about 15-20 minutes. Granulated sugar is more convenient, but I just ran out of what I had at home, so I switched to rock sugar, which was just as ok. To make the rock sugar melt better, add some water.
-
Steam the bowl over high heat for about 30 minutes. The rock sugar has all melted! The hawthorns are also ripe and soft when pressed, like steamed potatoes. Remove and let cool slightly. You can taste the sweetness at this time. It will be sour after everything cools down, so it is best to make it a little sweeter at this time. Use the jam function of the blender to puree everything.
-
Take some tin foil and spread it flat, and apply a thin layer of hawthorn mud on it. You can bake it in the oven at 70 degrees for 1 hour, or you can put it in a cool and ventilated place to dry without baking. After baking, it is usually left to dry for 1 day, and if not baked, it is usually allowed to dry for 3 days. This time I made a lot, so I didn’t bake it to save trouble.
-
It can be easily removed after drying and the tin foil will not stick to it. After taking it off, you can shape it as you like. In addition to the traditional rolls, if you have children at home, you can also use a fruit cutter to cut out a variety of shapes. Just store it in a sealed box!
