Wash fresh edamame and cut off both ends (for better flavor).

Prepare cinnamon, star anise, Sichuan peppercorns, dried chili peppers, and bay leaves.

Boil water in a pot, add cinnamon and other ingredients and salt (more salt), and bring the water to a boil.

Add garlic, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes to allow the aroma to dissolve in the water.

Add the edamame, turn to high heat, stir while cooking (do not cover the lid, so the edamame will remain green), and cook for 20 minutes. If you want to make the flavor more delicious, you can soak the edamame in the five-flavored water for more than an hour.
