Overview

Bird's nest, as the name suggests, is the nest of a swallow. However, it is not the nest of an ordinary swallow, but the nest of a special kind of swallow - a swiftlet. Swiftlets belong to the class Aves and family Swiftidae. It is a migratory bird that flies from Siberia and other places to breed in natural caves along the tropical coast from December to March every year. Swiftlets are smaller than the swallows we usually see. The feathers on their back are gray-brown with golden luster. Their wings are pointed and long, and all four toes grow forward. This swallow has well-developed mucus glands in its throat, and the saliva it secretes can solidify in the air, which is the main material for their nests. Swiftlets lay eggs in March and April every year. Before laying eggs, they fly over the sea and high altitudes every day, sometimes up to several thousand meters high, breaking through clouds and fog, sucking rain and dew, and feeding on insects. After digestion, they dig into steep, shady, high-altitude cliff crevices and deep caves, and spit to build nests. It will take about 20 days to build. The bird's nest is half-moon-shaped, shaped like a human ear, with a diameter of 6 to 7 centimeters, a thick base and thin walls, and a weight of about 5 to 15 grams. The outside of the bird's nest is neat, but the inside is rough, like a loofah network. The entire bird's nest is white and crystal clear, elastic and attached to the rocky cliffs. It has always been known as a rare medicine and an oriental treasure.
