-
Soak the glutinous rice one night in advance. I use round glutinous rice. My family is from the Northeast and I have always used this kind. Our rice is also called glutinous rice. It feels more sticky, has a good taste, and is not so scummy.
-
Wash the dried rice dumpling leaves and ropes with water in advance and soak them until soft.
-
Soak the red dates and remove the pits. You can also use various types of dates in bags, which taste sweeter. Mine are the dates my mother-in-law brought from Shandong. Although they are dried dates, they are super sweet.
-
Prepare two rice dumpling leaves stacked on top of each other, roll them up into an inverted cone, and add glutinous rice and dates.
-
Put some glutinous rice on the dates, buckle the rice dumpling leaves on top, wrap the upper part of the round seal cone, and wrap it tightly.
-
Then fold the extra rice dumpling leaves to one side, turn them along the rice dumplings, and then tie the rice dumpling ropes tightly.
-
After everything is wrapped, add water to the pot and put the rice dumplings in. The water should cover the rice dumplings. After boiling over high heat, cook over medium heat for an hour.
