Luanxi cake
Overview
Osmanthus fragrans, a shrub of the Asteraceae family, grows in the Mekong River. Luanxi cake is a cake steamed with glutinous rice flour, sticky rice flour, orange flour and borneol sugar. It is a traditional snack in the Pearl River Delta. It is the most common snack in Zhongshan and Zhuhai. It is a special food in the Pearl River Delta for the Buddha's birthday on the eighth day of April. In some areas, the eighth day of April is also known as the Buddhist Festival Luanxi Festival, which is also related to Buddhism. On that day, every household makes Luanxi cakes and eats them.
