Overview

As the saying goes, eat radish in winter and ginger in summer, and you will find fewer doctors prescribing medicine. Elderly people often use this sentence to describe the therapeutic effect of radish in their winter diet. This is because white radish has the effects of clearing away heat and promoting fluid production, cooling blood and stopping bleeding, lowering qi and widening the middle qi, digesting food and resolving stagnation, appetizing and strengthening the spleen, smoothing qi and resolving phlegm. Normally, radish is cooked with bones in soup, but during the Chinese New Year, I ate too much fish and didn’t want to eat greasy food, so I simply roasted the radish. Although there is no meat, the color and aroma are still very attractive.

  1. Wash the white radish and cut into radish strips of suitable size.

  2. Put the cut radish strips into a pot of boiling water and blanch them to remove the radish smell.

  3. Prepare scallions, ginger slices and 1 star anise.

  4. Heat oil in a wok, add star anise, green onions, and ginger slices and stir-fry until lightly browned.

  5. Add the blanched radish.

  6. Pour into a bowl of water and bring to a boil.

  7. Add appropriate amount of light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, a small amount of sugar and chicken essence and cook the radish.

  8. When the soup is almost gone, pour in a little sesame oil and stir-fry evenly before turning off the heat and serving on a plate.
