Homemade Purple Sweet Potato Yuanxiao
Overview
Tomorrow is the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. I took advantage of the free weekend and made some purple sweet potato Lantern Festival. On this day every year, we will eat Yuanxiao according to the custom. When I was young, my mother took us to make white yuanxiao with glutinous rice flour that we processed ourselves; the kind without fillings. With the continuous development of the economy, there are no longer glutinous rice flour processing stations in the community, so we have to go to the grain station to buy bags of glutinous rice flour and pack it back. Later, the planned economy was changed to a market economy, the grain stations disappeared, and supermarkets appeared. We also became lazier and enjoyed it more. During the Lantern Festival, we never thought about making glutinous rice dumplings by ourselves, and directly brought back the frozen stuffed dumplings from the supermarket. But since last year, I started making Yuanxiao by myself again. Since there is no stone mill to grind the flour, I can only buy glutinous rice flour in bags. The difference from childhood is that the filling is added; instead of the greasy black sesame filling with lard, it is changed to a light purple sweet potato filling; you can dip it in some white sugar or eat it directly. It is soft and waxy, chewy, and feels much more delicious than the one made by machine~`~
