Steps
-
Soak glutinous rice and red dates in water for one hour
-
Wash the rice dumpling leaves with water
-
Take two rice dumpling leaves and stack them together
-
Roll one end inwards
-
Decorate with rice first, then add red dates, and finally cover with a layer of rice and sprinkle with a few red beans (note: soak the red beans overnight in advance or cook them in boiling water for 10 minutes, which will make them more cooked). Finally, cover the rice dumpling leaves from top to bottom. Due to my clumsiness, I couldn’t spare the time to take this step
-
Tie them tightly with thin cotton rope to prevent the rice from leaking. The rice dumplings cooked in this way will be more elastic and delicious
-
Place a small grate under the pressure cooker and place the rice dumplings on the small grate to prevent the pot from sticking. Fill the pot with water so that the rice dumplings are not covered
-
Put another grate on top of the zongzi and press it with a stone. This is what my mother-in-law learned. As for why, I don’t know. I guess it is to prevent the rice in the zongzi from being soaked out, so that it can be cooked more tightly
-
Cover the pot and start cooking. After turning on the steam, turn to medium heat and cook for two hours. However, it depends on the condition of your pot, the amount of rice dumplings, and the amount of water.

It’s out of the pan and ready to eat. It’s soft, glutinous, sweet, and delicious!
