Wash the fragrant rice and soak it one hour in advance to prepare the soy milk. I made the soy milk freshly with a soy milk machine.

Steam the yam in a pot.

Put it in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush the yam into puree.

Pour the water into the casserole, bring to a boil and add the fragrant rice.

Bring to a boil over high heat until the fragrant rice blooms, add soy milk and yam paste, bring to a boil and then turn to low heat. (Don’t fill it too full, as the soy milk will easily overflow the pot when boiling.)

Cook until the rice is cooked, stirring throughout to prevent it from sticking to the pot.
