Chocolate Orange Pound Cake
Overview
Golden top, split and nice crust, I love the crust on this cake, it's weighty, that's on purpose! Don't let this cake get to you. Needs a good, long roast. In a small rotary oven, using a probe thermometer, this cake should take about an hour to complete. Don’t worry, it’s done when the deep golden skin appears on top

Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (163 degrees Celsius). Grease the inside of a 9×5-inch mold with butter, then dust the inside with flour and set aside. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Place granulated sugar on a clean cutting board or counter. Then add the orange peel. Using a toothed spatula or spoon, scrape off the orange peel and put it into the sugar to make a sugar with the aroma and taste of the orange. Set aside.

Install the whisk head on the electric egg beater, put the cream cheese and softened butter into the egg bowl and stir. Stop mixing occasionally and scrape down the butter and cream cheese from the sides of the bowl to ensure even mixture. Add the orange granulated sugar to the butter and cream cheese mixture and beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 3 minutes. Stop stirring. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add eggs one at a time, beating on medium speed for one minute before adding the other egg. Until 4 are added. Stop mixing and scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture from before. Beat on low speed until dry ingredients are completely combined. Pour in the chocolate chips and mix well.
-
Use a spoon to pour the batter into the previously prepared mold. Bake for 50-60 minutes, rotating once or twice. Cook until needle inserted into center comes out clean or with only a few crumbs.

Some readers have found that the cake takes 75 minutes to bake. You might consider placing a piece of tin foil on top of the cake about 45 minutes after baking before baking. This will prevent the browning from getting too dark, and help the center bake. This cake can be left at room temperature for up to four days.
