Chives, Chayote
Overview
Pu'er's climate is most suitable for the growth of chayote. Almost every family in rural areas will plant a chayote plant in front of and behind the house. When they don't have enough to eat, they feed it as pig feed. Chayote are also very cheap in the market. Sometimes you can buy five or six for one yuan. My mother also planted chayote behind the house, so every time she went back to her parents’ house, she would pick a few chayote to take home and keep in case she had no time to buy groceries due to work.
