Eating glutinous rice balls during the Winter Solstice is a traditional custom in my country, especially popular in Jiangnan. Tangyuan is also called glutinous rice balls, and eating glutinous rice balls during the Winter Solstice is also called winter solstice dumplings. The Winter Solstice group can be used to worship ancestors, and can also be used to exchange gifts with relatives and friends. In our hometown, there are savory and sweet glutinous rice balls, as well as mochi covered with soybean flour and brown sugar. That is also a solar term snack during the winter solstice.
