Golden Thousand Layer Cake
Overview
This golden layer cake is stuffed with taro, carrots, cabbage, and chives. It is layered and has a rich texture. It is sprinkled with sesame seeds on the outside, making it crispy and delicious. It is yellow on the outside and salty on the inside, and fresh on the inside. It leaves a fragrant taste in your mouth after eating but does not stick to your teeth. Wash the carrots, taro, cabbage and chives and cut into pieces. Use oyster sauce, salt, thirteen spices and chicken essence to pickle the taro and carrots.

Mix flour, yeast, and sugar, slowly pour in warm water, and stir with chopsticks to form a fluffy mixture.

Knead the dough until the surface is smooth. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.

Dip your index finger in flour and poke a hole in the middle. If the hole does not collapse or shrink back, you can see that the dough has formed a honeycomb shape inside. It is ready to ferment.

Knead the fermented dough until the surface is smooth.

Deflate, divide into 5 equal parts, roll into balls, cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 15 minutes.

Roll out all 5 pieces of dough into approximately 25cm in diameter.

Spread a layer of oyster sauce on the first piece of dough and spread a layer of taro.

Spread a layer of oyster sauce on the second piece of dough and spread a layer of carrots.

Place a layer of starter on the third piece of dough (the starter itself is salty, so no need to apply oyster sauce).

Spread a layer of oyster sauce on the fourth piece of dough and spread a layer of chives.

Do not put fillings on the 5th piece of dough.

Place in a 9-inch round mold lined with baking paper or oilcloth.

Let rise until doubled in size.

Brush the surface of the dough with egg wash.

Sprinkle some white sesame seeds.

Place the dough into the preheated oven on the middle rack and bake at 130 degrees for 40 minutes (depending on the temperature of your oven).

Unmold immediately after taking out of the oven and let cool.

Cut into pieces and serve on a plate.
